The sooner the better. My ex and I got a cocker spaniel that was 4 months old and wasn't really trained by the breeder. So it took a long time to get him trained to go outside rather than enywhere he flet like going in the house.

When she left and took the dog, I went out and got another cocker spaniel…actually his little brother from the same breeder- the next liter. He was 9 weeks old when I brought him home and he's doing "pretty good" with the training…better than the other one was by 6 months. And he also had a UTI infection since I brought him to the vet a week after I got him. He was on antibiotics until about a week and half ago and is getting a new sample tested from last night. But considering that infection is going to make him go without knowing and being able to control it- it says a lot about starting training earlier.

there very young and should still be with there mother, so they come away from there mothers at 7 to 8 weeks so until then dont start, ones there walking around and they dont need there mother any more and they have had there first injections then start training them, put news paper in every corner and dont give the pup alot of room to run around other wise he will get confused a wee every were as he gets older and gets bigger slowly day by day take the news papers away and put the newspapers near the back door at all times they will make mistakes from time to time dont shout at him just get him take him to were he has just weed let him smell what he has done and put him on the newspapper straight away, good luck

a lot of work! They will go potty outside every 2 hours on the spot. Make sure they go to a fenced in area … as they grow they explore!
I started a winter litter training a few years ago … the babies were 4 weeks old they loved the snow. I slept on the couch so i could hear them as they woke to go outside… it is a lot of work!

    Good luck

I took in a pregnant stray back in april. From the time the pups were going on their own they had a papered area for pottying and a sleeping area. THey ALL used the papers…just put them NEXT to the sleping are as they leave the sleep area to potty.

My vet ok'd them going outside at 5 weeks since my yard is fenced and I have never had an unvaccinated or sick dog in the yard. So i would carry them all out in a lg rubbermaid tub and the min they hit the groound they would start peeing and pooping. I also fed them outside cause I had 8 pups and they would start peeing and pooping the sec that pup was done eating/drinking…i started feeding puppy mush at 3.5-4 weeks. I only had 1-2 accidents normally at night on the papers and only a few during the day. I took them out to eat and then pretty frequently.

Good luck and my puppy only had maybe 10 accidents and she was in the house with us from 5-6 weeks

well on the shiba inu puppy cam they put 'puppy potty pads' on the floor in the cage with the puppies. Once they started using them they moved them a little closer to the door, then closer & finally outside on the patio.
