You have seen it before; an apartment stinking of puppy feces and urine. Or, this could be your apartment right now. Don’t you want to do something about it? There is nothing more awkward than having company at your apartment that is stained with puppy pee and poop. Take a stand and potty train your puppy today and save your apartment:

• Choose a spot inside your apartment for your puppy to eliminate his/herself. Go back to this same exact spot each time the puppy needs to relieve itself. Your puppy will be attracted to relieving his/herself in this same spot after going in this spot a few times. You can use litter box or just newspaper.

• Have treats ready for when your puppy successfully eliminates outdoors. Be consistent with rewarding the puppy and he/she will be more likely to hold his/her bladder longer if they think there is a treat.

• If you see your puppy starting to relieve him/herself in the apartment, pick them up immediately and carry them to their spot.

• Create a word that you use each time you take your puppy out to the spot. It can be something like: “Go pee,” “Do business,” or “Go potty.” Just make sure to be consistent and use the phrase each time you bring your puppy out to his/her spot.

• Do not yell or be abusive if your puppy eliminates in the apartment. Some breeds will shut down and not listen if they are yelled at or physically abused.

• If your puppy does make a mess in your apartment, do not let him/her see you clean up the mess. If your puppy sees you doing this, he/she might think it is ok to eliminate indoors.
